| If you are planning to visit
Italy from the United States or Canada, then you do not need a Visa,
if you plan to stay for 90 days or less. However, you will need a passport.
So, if you’re only planning a vacation, or a short business trip, then
you don’t have to worry about obtaining a Visa. However, if you are planning
to stay longer than 90 days, but you’re not sure yet about how long your
residency will last, you will need a Schengen Treaty/Tourist Visa.
Other Visas are available depending
on your reason for being in Italy. A student’s Visa
has no fees, and is meant for students enrolled in a university in Italy,
or in a foreign university or course that will be held in Italy.
You will, not matter what
type of Visa that you use, have to report your arrival to the authorities
in Italy within eight days. Once you have reported your arrival,
you will receive a stay permit. The Stay Permit is the only legal way to
legitimize your stay in Italy. You will need a Stay Permit if you
plan to be in Italy for a long period, as you won’t be permitted
to even have a telephone turned on without it.
If you have any problems with
your Visa, or have any questions, you should contact the Italian Embassy
in your country.
