| Lecce, Italy
is located in the Salento Peninsula, in Italy’s “boot”. It is the
capital of the Leece Province in the Apulia Region of southern Italy.
Lecce was originally a Greek city, and later became a Roman town.
It is best known for its glorious architecture, and has been mainly eluded
by tourists. The city itself has virtually unchanged over the centuries,
and still holds many spectacular points of interest for those wishing for
a glimpse of ancient Italy.
Delicate and exquisite wrought
iron balustrades and whitewashed arches grace the city. The Palazzo del
Vescovado and Palazzo del Seminario are two of the most beautiful and appreciated
piazzas in all of Europe. Lecce’s most popular export is the “Lecce
Stone” which is a soft stone renowned for its use in sculpting.
