| You
would, of course, expect the nightlife in Milan to
be vibrant. However, not even the most experienced traveler to Milan
could possibly know all the clubs, bars, lounge bars, wine bars, pubs,
cafés, bistros, and wine cellars. There are many clubs furnished
in high tech, and some that are simply traditional. Wine bars are very
popular also. Milanese appreciate variation, and it is very evident in
the many ways to spend your evenings while visiting Milan.
Your
evening will begin with the passegiata, which is a tradition in Italy,
where you will wear your best clothing, and stroll up and down the central
streets to see and be seen. There are different areas in Milan
for the passegiata, but the most popular are the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele
II and the Via Dante.
Restaurant-bars
abound in Milan and are a very popular attraction for tourists and
locals alike. The modern trend is to try to take in two or three spots
in one night. The Navigli district around the canals is the best for finding
bars and cafés. There are also many cafés, restaurants, and
clubs in the Brera area. Most bars and restaurants stay open until after
1 am. Milans legal drinking age is 16.
The
Grand Café Fashion, Porta Ticinese is a wonderful place to experience
Milans vibrant nightlife. For a quick glass of some
of the finest wines in Italy, Il Divino is a must stop. This is where the
famous aperitif was invented. The century-old Pasticceria Ricca also offers
a wonderful atmosphere and tasty wines and cocktails. The Pasticceria Ricca
offers pastries by day and a gay disco by night. It is a favored spot of
Boy George, and he frequents there often.
There
are currently no licensed casinos located in Milan.
Clubs, however,
do abound. The newest fashionable area is the former industrial zone near
Via Savona in Porto Genova. Here you will find many clubs that offer different
atmospheres and musical choices. Pow Wow, in the Bocconi zone, offers Mexican
or Italian cuisine, as well as funk dancing and hip hop on
two different dance floors. Larger clubs can fit up to 2000 people. Propaganda
is a larger club that was once an industrial building and offers two dance
floors, two performance spaces, three bars and a pub.
For live
music, you can beat Scimmie. Scimmie has manage to retain its position
as the most favored spot for jazz in the Navigli district, although there
are other spots that offer jazz and rhythm and blues. Blues House is located
in the same area and is just as popular with locals and tourists alike.
For rock and blues, Tangram is a great choice. For Indie music, you should
consider going to Tunnel. All major bands and soloists now include Milan
on the tours, so live music is always readily available.
