Shopping
It should come as no surprise that shopping abounds throughout Milan. Being the home of Armani and Versace, Milan offers a wonderful array of shops and boutiques for your shopping experience.

For the best in furniture and design, the Corso Matteoti, Via Durini, and Via Manzoni are the best streets. These are fairly expensive shops, but well worth it for the quality. The Via Fiori Chiari is a wonderful spot for browsing the many galleries, and holds a good number of cafés. This area also holds a number of antique shops. Antique fairs are very popular in Milan on the weekends near the Naviglio Grande by the canal banks.

If you like to shop on a budge, the university area, and the Porta Ticinese offer lower prices for higher fashions.
Outside of the historic centre, fashion outlets abound. Clothing, hats, luggage, shoes, and many accessories can be found, although somewhat expensive. Discount stores can be found on the Corriere della Sera. If needed, you can hire English speaking shopping assistants by calling (02) 5831-2696.

Winter sales will begin in the second week of January, and summer sales begin the second week of July. If you are in Milan during these periods, it is an excellent time to shop for otherwise very expensive fashion. Most shops are open throughout the day, with a break in mid afternoon. Larger stores, however, may stay open all day. During the Christmas season, many shops will stay open late into the night.

Sales tax is normally between 12% and 14% depending on your purchase.
