| Padova or Padua,
Italy is located in the Veneto region in northern Italy. Padova
is the capital of Padova province. It lies on the Bacchiglione River
and the Brenta River. This beautiful and picturesque city in Italy offers
a network of arcaded streets that open into a large communal piazze, and
several bridges that cross the many different branches of the Bacchioglione
River, which at one time, surrounded the ancient walls of Padova
like a moat.
Padova is home to Italy’s
second oldest university. The University was founded in 1222 and boasts
alumni such as Copernicus, Fallopius, Galileo Galilei and Scaliger, among
others. Padova is also the setting for most of the acts in Shakespeare’s
“Taming of the Shrew”.
