The University of Parma, founded in the 11th century, is also located in this beautiful city. The University has around 30,000 students from all over the world. Parma is divided into two parts by a stream which is also named Parma. Musical composers such as Verdi, Toscanini, and Pizzetti were all born in or near Parma.

Over the years, Parma has become a central point for opera lovers such as Verdi. There are many monuments and museums located throughout the city such as Antelami’s Baptistery, Pilotta, and Chamber of Saint Paul. The Torrechiara is Parma’s best preserved castle. It has virtually been unchanged since the 15th century. Beautiful sculptures and architecture are located in the Torrechiara. Parma’s 12th century Duomo is offset by a 13th century Gothic bell tower and features a beautiful pink marble baptistery. This city has well preserved its ancient culture and heritage. Visiting Parma is like stepping back in time to view the magnificence and grace of centuries long past.

The manufacturing of food is Parma’s main economic industry. However, Parma has recently become home to a sophisticated fashion industry. Parma Couture is a consortium of over fifty fashion companies, and has become very popular, and a great asset to Parma’s overall economy.

This beautiful city offers not only old world style and culture, but friendly and welcoming locals. This, in addition to the wonderful foods created here, are wonderful reasons to include Parma in your visit to Italy.
