| If you are planning to drive
into Pisa, you can take the Florence - Pisa
autostrada along the Arno valley. You simply take the SS12 or the S12r
from Lucca. The A12 runs from the north down the coast and the SS1 runs
along the coast north and south.
Buses are also available, and
run every hour from Florence. A bus from Florence will take
approximately 2 ½ hours to arrive in Pisa.
You can contact the bus stations in any city in the Tuscan region to find
schedules and availability for transport to Pisa.
Trains run daily from Rome,
Florence, and Livorno, as well as Siena and Lucca.
Pisa is a three hour train ride from Rome, and 1 ½
hours from Florence. Check with the train station for a complete
schedule and approximate transport time from various cities.
The Galileo Galilei, which
is the main international airport in Tuscany can be
reach at 050/500-707 and is located 2 miles south of Pisa. You can
take a train from the airport or hire a taxi to take you into the city.
Taxi rides can be expensive if you plan to use them for inter city transport,
so check with the taxi line to clarify any additional charges, such as
luggage handling, that you may incur.
