| If you
are planning to drive into Siena, you can take the
altostrati directly from Florence, and simply follow the signs to
Siena. There are other, more scenic routes that will take you there also.
The old Via Cassia SS2 or the Chiantigiana SS222 going through Chianti
will get you to Siena from Florence, and also let you enjoy
some of Italys most beautiful countryside views. From Rome you
simply take the A1 north at the Val di chiana exit and follow the SS326
west for 31 miles. Parking is much easier than most cities, and will normally
cost about $1.25 per hour. You may be entitled to a parking discount, depending
on your hotel. Check with them upon arrival to determine if you can get
a 40 to 100% discount on your parking needs while in Siena.
Buses
are readily available, and are more convenient than trains since the train
station is located outside of Siena. There are around 20 trains
that connect Florence and Siena daily, and the trip takes
about 2 hours. There are trains, also, from other cities in Italy. Check
with the train station for rates and schedules.
Again,
traveling by bus is much more convenient and many times are a much faster
choice also. Daily buses run from Florence and the trip takes only
75 minutes. There are also slower buses that take about 2 hours, but unlike
with the train, you are deposited right in the middle of town. You can
check with bus stations for fare and schedules.
