Torino, Italy, also called Turin, is located in northwest Italy on the west bank of the Po River and is the capital of the Piedmont Region of Italy. It is home to the headquarters of the automobile manufacturer, Fiat, and was also the first capital of the Unified Italy. The beautiful hills of Monferrato and the Alps surround Torino and four major rivers pass through it. Besides the Po River, the Dora Riparia, the Stura di Lanzo, and the Sangone also flow through Torino

Torino’s climate is generally a Mediterranean climate. Winters in Torino are cold and normally dry, and summers are cool up on the hills, but hot in the plains. Torino is best known for its aerospace industry, Alenia. In addition, the Multi Purpose Logistics Modules for the International Space Station were also produced in Torino. Other industry manufacturers located in Torino include Telecom Italia, Rai television, and the National Museum of Cinema.

Some sights to enjoy while visiting Torino include the Cattedrale di San Giovanni, which was home to the Shroud of Torino, the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, and the Royal Palace.  You can also enjoy the beauty of the Palatine Towers, which are among the most well preserved Roman remains located throughout northern Italy, and the Palazzo Reale, which was built for Christine Marie of France. The most important collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world, besides those in the Cairo Museum, are located within the Museo Egizio.

Torino is also the birth place of solid chocolate. During the end of the 18th century, Doret invented a maching that could make chocolate solid, instead of liquid. Each year, Torino holds a two week long festival with the main chocolate producers in the Piedmont Region.

Shopping abounds throughout Torino. There are flew markets, antique shops, book shops, and much more to enjoy while visiting. The Piazza Carlo Felice holds collections from some of the most important fashion designers in Italy. In the Piazza della Repubblica you can find the largest open air market in all of Europe.
